Wickham Gardens is a fantastic spot, both historically, socially and communally. It was the first public recreation ground in Uphill Lincoln when it opened almost 100 years ago. The council has recently tried to close it and taken away all of the play equipment. A local group have campaigned to have it maintained as a much needed open space in an area of mainly terraced housing where the children have little chance to kick a ball. Please help us to help our community!

This is a wonderful area of a very beautiful part of the city. The loss of such a valuable resource would be unjustifiable. The local community from young to old will directly benefit from the development of the space. Surely this is an exciting opportunity to create a lovely resource to serve the community now and in the future.

Space is what we need in our towns and cities for children with boundless energy who want to play outdoors. We are not all blessed with gardens suitable for children to run around and have adventures in. Wickham Gardens is a fantastic space for outdoor play but due to cut backs from the local authority, it looks very sad with only one piece of old play equipment. We need to claim back this space for our children, make it vibrant, create a playground where children can let off steam and engage in outdoor play safely. Our schools and playgroups are desperate for more outdoor play areas, let's see if we can turn Wickham gardens into a place of laughter and fun - somewhere pre-school children can go during the day for fun and activity, where children coming out of school can go for picnics and fresh air, somewhere families can have fun together at weekends without being restricted by cost or by not having transport. Wickham gardens needs funding to breath new life into it and make it, once again, a vibrant area for children to play outdoors.

Wickham gardens is a fantastic little oasis in a largely built up and historical part of Lincoln. The fact that it is completely enclosed makes it a wonderfully safe place for children to enjoy and parents to relax. Not only that it was historically given to the people of Lincoln and it would be so great if this could continue. Due to safety much of the old equipment has now been removed and it would be fantastic to have some new play equipment for the children to enjoy.

This delightful llittle park was given to the City of Lincoln by the widow of Dean Wickham nearly 100 years ago. It is so important to keep this area for the local people.

Lincoln has very little green space. The surrounding area is full of young children with little or no garden of their own to play in.
Wickham Gardens was given to the people of Lincoln by The Wickhams and it should remain with the people of Lincoln who need somewhere safe for their children to play.

This site has the potential to be a wonderful area for the local community. At the moment there is nothing to draw families in. There is no play equipment and the area is looking very run down. The recent campaign to save the site from development has shown how loved Wickham Gardens is and we now need financial support to make it looked loved too.

Lincoln is short of good community facilities especially for children and particularly in the up hill area of the City. Having saved Wickham Gardens from the proposed developement of the site, it is now essential to create an area which will be attractive for people, young and old, to use. At present there is nothing on the site and if the situation remains that way it will quickly become a waste land which will encourage antisocial behaviour. With no hope of the City Council providing any funding to replace the removed equipment, we need to find alternative support to bring the site back to its former glory and provide families with a much needed facility.

Not from Lincoln and I never knew of Wickham gardens until I became involved with the Lincoln Tank, but what an oasis nestling amongst a sea of concrete and with historical interest too. It would be a great shame and pity to lose this tranquil area or have it rendered unfit by other usage. Once more the young will be deprived.

wickham gardens used to be a vibrant, exciting park next to westgate school..where all children used it as a play area during and after school, and at weekends, also children from all around the community used it to its full potential, especially during the summer months, such a lovely park..then the council earmarked it for development.. took most of the play equipment away, saying they were a health and safety risk..and chopped trees down..then through the protests of local parents and children and the community the council saw the error of their ways..but that leaves the children with a lovely green space..but no or very little equipment to play on..and the council for whatever reason, will not put any play equipment back in...it is such a crying shame to let this happen to so many children of all ages,as this park has been here for so many years and has been used by all generations..grandparents..parents and now our children..everyone who has links with wickham gardens has got behind the cause and all would like to see it reinstated to its former glory..please help...

Wickahme Gardens in in the heart of Lincoln. The area is surrounded by a very close community with a very large primary school (6oo children) next door to the park. The homes in the centre of the city have very little space for play. This space is so important for children to have somwhere to go to play. The council wanted to sell off the land for inner city development but the space has been saved through the hard work of local residents and the council decision was overturned by a 1000+ petiton being presented. The area is slowiy going to the dogs! Please help rescue it for the generations to come.

Wickham Gardens is a wonderful and much loved green space. I used to go there with my Mum over 30 years ago and I always loved it. I take my kids there today and they love it as much as I did, it's just a shame it's so lacking in play equipment nowadays. It's also a very important historical site with connections to Lincolns, Roman, Medieval, Industrial and military heritage and we should cherish it.

As well as being a great space for people of all ages, it is also very ancient. There was a medieval church on the site, St Clement's, but before that it was only the Romans, who built their civic buildings, and before that, their military fort here. This part of the upper city used to be called "Old Lincoln". It hasn't been built on since the 13th century. It is a great space that should remain
