Nominated by Lorraine

A small play area which we are trying to develop into an accessible play area for the district. We would like to make improvements to allow both able and disabled children play and have fun. We would fund a specially designed slide feature.

It would be fantastic for there to be a fully furbished play area for all children on the north side of Lancaster. At present all the available play areas are old, worn and sparse and give the wrong messages to children about our care for them.

Play is essential to healthy development in children and there needs to be greater opportunities for children to have safe outdoor play in the north of Lancaster. Ryelands Park would be ideal because it is quite central and is surrounded by the playing fields and the cycle and foot paths.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Ryelands x

This has made my week! Ryelands Park is a great resource with huge potential, but is in the shadow of other parks in the district and has never had the input or care it deserves. On a practical point I agree with the earlier posting that there is a desperate need for a crossing onTorrisholme road at the top end of the park - as it is really dangerous to cross. The focus of this application to be fully inclusive and provide facilities for all children is just fantastic. It would be wonderful for the community to have a facility that children and adults could feel deservedly proud of, and one that encouraged people both from within and outside the area to come and enjoy spending time there. This would make such a significant difference to the whole community - really hope it is successful.

What a great idea, it would be great to see a truly inclusive play area that encourages and allows children of all abilities to play together.

My kids have been using the play area for years and we still use the facilities now!! Its ideally located aswell as there is plenty of playing fields. My son and his friends can play in the small football area (next to the tennis courts) while my two youngest play in the playground....i can keep an eye on both activities! There are also planty of trees around the park to climb and my son and his mates love this ......aswell as playing hide and seek....these extra activities compliments our day out in the park...for me, its local, accessible and located in a beautifully maintained park.

What a great idea! There's plenty of room in Ryelands Park for something like this and there's a carpark not far away.

You have my support for this play area, I have always felt we are last on the list for re-gen. of playgrounds. So this will be great. However, one thing that I would like to point out and I have complained before to the highways commision is that there is only one safe place to cross Torrisholme road from the Vale right down at the end at the junction of the A6. The park is about half a mile long from the railway bridge to the aforementioned lights, do you feel we should also highlight this? I'm quite sure( but don't quote me) there used to be a zebra crossing on Torrisholme road near the end of Noel road.

Developing this play area will make a real difference to a lot of people and give a massive boost the area. Ryelands Park is the hub of the community and creating a fully accessible play area is inspiring!

This play area is within a park with fantastic green space and offers local residents with quality leisure space. The play area could offer local residents with an accessible facility that isnt currently available within walking distance and this is vital to many residents. This would create a mix of great play equipment and also allows families to explore the wider opportunities within the green spaces.
