Morley Road Park

Our park is popular with local families even though the play area needs urgent renovation. It consists of 4 swings and 2 small metal climbing frames. We would like a modular climbing unit and balance bars to appeal to a larger cross section of ages.

I come over to Farnham regularly to visit friends who live very close to the park and yet we always have to get in the car and drive somewhere in order for their children to have equipment to play on. It seems such a shame to have this lovely space - largely unused because of the lack of facilities - in a busy residnetial area of the town. I think the photo at the top of this page explains all really - there's nothing there! There is absolutley no doubt that if this park was fitted with good faciltiies for the children then it would be very well used.

We use this park regularly and it’s a wonderful space. You rarely make a visit without meeting somebody you know (across the generations).

Dog walkers, kiddies learning to ride, families playing ball games or flying kites – the list goes on. Plus come the winter it’s the main area for snowman making competitions and in the summer it hosts the annual ‘Big Lunch’ organised by the residents of St. George’s Road (now into its third year and attracting crowds of 50+). What’s more, so valued is this space by the residents, that we actively care for the site (picking up litter etc.).

However, what unites us all is the woeful children’s play equipment. It kind of defies belief (have you seen the photos?). Whilst the park itself is in a fantastic location, one of the most important areas lies sad and neglected.

It’s just such a shame, because there are so many families that would benefit from an upgrade. It would encourage more frequent visits, helping foster even stronger local connections. Most importantly it would do justice to a park that hasn’t seen a penny spent on the play area in over 30 years. So please look favourably on our bid; it would make such a difference to our community.

Morley Road rec is wonderfully positioned for the many young families who live close by and is a safe green space which should be used by lots of children. My own children use it to play football and cricket and to ride their bikes but the dingy little play corner holds no appeal whatsoever which makes it difficult to take smaller children as they soon become bored. I have been a resident for over 10 years and have witnessed many other playgrounds around Farnham being rejuvinated whilst Morley Road is sadly neglected. In an age when children spend far too much time glaring at screens, they should be given every encouragement to spend more active time playing outside. Morley Road rec has the potential to provide wonderful stimulating play and activity for many children.

This playground is situated in an entirely residential area that is dominated by young families. Therefore it is a great shame that the playground does not cater for all the little people that visit the park on a regular basis. There are several local primary schools that are minutes away and it would be great to have a park that children wanted to visit after school like the parks in central Farnham. The equipment is very dated and completely neglected which means visiting children get bored very quickly and want to move on. How lovely would it be to have a play park so close by that our children really wanted to visit. It would become the new 'hub' of Farnham and allow the community to come together a build lasting relationships!

I don't think this playground has had any improvement made to it since I played in it some 30 years ago. It is situated in a lovely quiet park and urgently needs to be updated.

Morley Road Park is in a fantastic location and what a shame that the area is so hugely neglected. It's sad to see the playground so deserted when there is so much potential for children / families to enjoy this space. Please support this cause and provide the park with much needed equipment.

It seems so sad to have such a wonderful local play space where the kids (I have two) could play so happily as they do in other play parks, and regularly meet other children and families from the local neighbourhood. Yet the play park, if you can call it that, is usually empty... and you can see why.

My parents had a similarly neglected play park near their house in Hampshire and it was deserted. It was renovated last Autumn and is now fabulous. We visited recently on a cold, grey and damp afternoon and it was heaving with families. Whilst just a small space, it has become a real focal point for the local community and you can see new friendships forming. These parks and facilities are so important for community spirit - it would be great to transform Morley Park in the same way. It would be used by so many local families, and their friends and families and local school children. It would be well loved!

Morley Road Park is the local park and playground for hundreds of families this side of the busy A31 dual carriage way; which you need to cross in order to get to our nearest place with swings and slides. If the park was renovated and a safe play area added it would provide a fabulous place for children to play and explore.

The square shape should allow planners to maximise the space and get the most bang for the buck, while allowing the football to carry on unaffected.

It's based in a family area. It's a park that needs to reflect both the number of children it serves and the spread of ages as well. It gets used for family events and is a destination site for families like my own who live over in the Bourne but know families in this area. It needs some renovations, surely these will happen?

Morley Park is a great community park and is surrounded by houses with young families, so it’s a shame to see that the playground is hardly used and children prefer to play elsewhere. The park is great for running, dog walkers and bike riders, but the playground is always empty.
The equipment is really old and not safe and the location - in the darkest corner under the trees is not ideal.
As the others have said , there are so many children in the surrounding area who would benefit enormously from much improved equipment!!!
We go to the park very often and it has been the venue for some really great community parties, so the improved play area would be very much appreciated by the whole local community.

This could be such a brilliant opportunity to breathe new life into a neglected and unloved playarea which has so much potential to be a fantastic and safe place for local children to use. The park itself is lovely, and has been the venue for some great community parties and events. There are so many young families, mine included, in the surrounding area who would benifit from having somewhere fun to play that is close to home and does'nt involve a long walk for little legs across busy roads in order to get to it.

Something else worth noting everyone, I took these pictures during half term - on a sunny day. Look how busy the play area is... Ha ha! Please everyone - let's spread the word about this campaign. Morley Park could be brilliant, not BORING.

We have been using this park for years now our girls (aged 5 and 7) have learned to cycle here and they love to meet up with their friends and play. The play area is very tired and there is not enough equipment which is a great shame.

We live at the bottom of the road leading up the park. It's a 3 minutes walk. Unfortunately the equipment at Morley Road is old, unsafe and uninspiring. My two boys go to Morley Road park to ride their bikes and scooters, not to play on the swings. It's a real shame when the boys ask to go to Gostrey Meadows park in the centre of Farnham which is a 20 minutes walk across a very large main road, instead of their (very) local park. The local area is teeming with young families that would benefit greatly from new equipment at Morley Park - wouldn't it be great to encourage those families to get out in the fresh air and build a sense of community in the park? It's good for the kids and their parents!

Reading the comments makes me realize how inadequate the existing swing and clothes horse (!) are. Also they're located in the darkest corner under the trees - just so the rest of the park is given over to a football pitch used once a week by a bunch of males. How about making the pitch half the size (better for footballing kids anyway) and using the rest for something more appealing to a wider range of children and adults?
