I remember getting into dolls later than my other friends, as I spent the first 5 or 6 years of my life being a complete tom-boy and only wanting to play with my big brother's 'boys' toys! After this phase had gone and more of my friends were girls, I started getting really interested in dolls. I don't remember what age I was when my mum thought I was a bit old for them, but she thought there was no harm - it was just that I was a late starter!
Sometimes when my 3 year old son is playing with his various figures and dinosaurs, off in his own magical world, it reminds me of the feeling I used to get when immersed in doll world!
I agree with you, Joanne, when you say that girls playing with dolls beyond age 10 is preferable to them acting too old for their age. It must be scary if they want to grow up too fast!
