Here's how to help your pocket ease into the new term.
While Scottish schools are already a few weeks in to the new term, elewhere many schools don't kick off the new season until next week. And since most of us parents are empty of pockets and ideas by now, we need a little help. I tried to assist with six free summer holiday activities on my blog, but on reflection these were quite stupid and no help at all.
So here are some back to school money saving offers and discounts to help you launch the new term less bothered by the echoing wasteland that used to be your wallet.
Free nits for all

Encyclopædia Britannica and Intel have launched a special back to school offer. Britannica is currently offering two free apps (Britannica Solar System & Angry Birds) for download on every PC, laptop and netbook through the links below:

Discounts on stationery
If you still need to pick up a few school bits and pieces, Poundland have a great range in store, or for an easier home shopping version, Staples have plenty of discounts (save up to 80 per cent) and will deliver free on orders over £30. That's a lot of pencils. Stock up now and you could be sorted for the whole school year.

I have deliberately waited till the last minute to get my son's new school things as I had a funny feeling he was due a growth spurt round about now - and sure enough he did! We took a trip into town on Saturday to get all his bits and bobs, but I must admit there wasn't a huge amount left on the shelves. Thanks for the great tips above Joanne - and I quite like the idea of Gremlin hunting :-)

I have been pleasantly surprised at how it has been relatively easy to do last minute schoolwear shopping - I don't remember other years being like this. I had to buy four pairs of shoes in a week, so ended up going to an outlet store where they had last year's designs at big discounts.
