Once the tan’s gone and the laundry mountain is conquered, what’s the best thing your youngsters have brought home?
Holidays are all about memories and life-improving, horizon widening experiences, but my kids like to have something to jog those memories and log those experiences.
When they go and see their dad, Other Granny puts together beautiful albums complete with tickets, photos, maps and notes. I know the boys like them, but once they’ve looked at them they tend to languish on the book case.
I asked Boy Two what the best thing he’d brought back from his holidays was. “My teddies,” he answered in a flash. He was talking about the vast assembly of soft toys that jostle for space on his bed. He calls them his Night-time Team. Shabba the Bear is the undisputed and long-term leader of the Team, but the Mickey toy from his Easter outing to Eurodisney is currently deputy.
“I like to get teddies from gift shops in places I visit. I collect them and they help me remember where I’ve been. The Team keeps getting more powerful,” he explained.
hat's Boy Two and his Night-Time Team deputy in the picture.
While I try to steer the boys away from the ubiquitous gift shops, I don’t really mind adding some muscle to the Night-time Team.
Liz Jarvis, our Ready For Ten travel expert says she likes to collect Christmas decorations so when they dress the tree they get a lovely reminder of where they’ve been. That’s a brilliant idea and one I think I’ll copy.

That's really sweet of oyur son Ellen and obviously a lot of thought has gone into his decision. I have a friend that collects a pebble from each beach they visit at a family around the UK, and then she writes the location and date on each stone and they live in a box frame with a picture of the beach, any tickets they may have collected etc. Ikea does great Ribba frames that can be used as memories boxes.

Ahhh fab post. I love Liz's idea of a Christmas Decoration, and your friend's idea the pebbles from the beach. I think my two would both say teddies, or possibly their autograph books from Disneyland Paris. For me it's the photos. Kind of obvious I know but I take tons and we love looking back through them.
My kids have brought back some beautiful shells and pebbles and we did turn some of them into cute prezzies for friends by adding googlie eyes and smiley faces. You've got me thinking on this Ellen.
